About
About Cat Name Maker
A free generator of cat names with meanings, built from a public pet-license snapshot and writing we did ourselves.
Who publishes it
Cat Name Maker is published by Lanic. This page does not list a job title, a street address, or a personal inbox, because those are not part of the public site.
Why it exists
Most cat-name pages repeat each other. This one starts from the City of Seattle’s pet-license records (12,782 cats and 5,870 spellings in the snapshot retrieved2026-10-23) and keeps a curated set of 981 names. Each meaning is original. Coat, gender, and theme tags are editorial. Seattle’s file is a name and a count, nothing else.
Category lists overlap on purpose. A name can be funny and also a boy name. The count in a page title is the number of names on that page. The generator can also suggest names that do not sit on a category page.
